HIGHLIGHT GRAMMAR · PRIVATE WRITING ASSISTANT
Help
Get started
- Open Models. It opens on its own after you install. Download Standard; it’s a one-time download.
- Pin Highlight Grammar from Chrome’s puzzle-piece menu.
- On a site where you write, click the icon and choose Turn on for this site. Or turn on Check on all websites in Settings.
- Optional: download Advanced for more natural phrasing, and Refine to polish whole drafts when you ask.
What you need
- Desktop Chrome 130 or newer with hardware acceleration turned on (Settings → System).
- A GPU with WebGPU and half-precision (shader-f16) support. Many recent Macs and Windows PCs qualify. Models checks your device before you download anything.
- Free disk space: about 450 MB for Standard, 1.5 GB for Advanced and 450 MB for Refine.
Google Docs and other unsupported editors
Google Docs isn’t supported yet. Select text and choose Check with Highlight Grammar from the right-click menu, or use the sidebar’s Paste tab, then copy the result back.
Troubleshooting
- “WebGPU is unavailable”: turn on hardware acceleration in Chrome settings and restart Chrome. Check chrome://gpu for WebGPU status.
- “This device’s GPU doesn’t support…”: the GPU lacks the half-precision shaders the models need, so Highlight Grammar can’t run on this device.
- A download stopped: choose Download again. Files that already finished are kept. If storage is full, free some space first.
- “The local model stopped working”: choose Retry in the sidebar, or Models → Advanced → Retry runtime. Test runtime runs a short check.
- No suggestions: make sure the site is turned on and checking isn’t paused. Text that isn’t in English is skipped.
